Definition
OPAIS uses the ‘billing address’ field to record the verified address of the covered entity. Unlike the shipping address (which must be a physical location), the billing address can be a P.O. box or other mailing address. The billing address is used for administrative correspondence and identification purposes.
Maintaining an accurate billing address in OPAIS is part of the covered entity’s ongoing OPAIS maintenance obligations. During annual recertification, the authorizing official certifies the accuracy of all OPAIS information, including the billing address.
While the billing address may seem like a minor administrative detail, OPAIS data accuracy—including all address fields—is reviewed during HRSA audits. Outdated or incorrect information in any OPAIS field can create compliance questions.
